Floratam (St. Augustine)
Floratam is the most popular variety of grass in Florida. This all-round favorite thrives in direct sunlight and provides an attractive, lush, blue-green lawn. Throughout the state of Florida, this is one of only two varieties that show some resistance to chinch bugs. Floratam has a dense, moderately coarse blade.
Captiva (St. Augustine)
Captiva, once known as NUF-76 during its research years, was developed at the University of Florida by Dr. Russell Nagata. It is a very slow grower, requiring less mowing and also less fertilization, and is chinch-bug resistant.
Seville (St. Augustine)
Seville is a semi-dwarf St Augustine grass used in residential lawns throughout the southeastern United States. Seville has excellent compact horizontal growth due to its semi-dwarf composition, and it requires less mowing than most grasses. Its uniform texture, rich dark-green color and shorter, narrower leaf blade give it a distinctive plush appearance. Seville has proven to be one of the highest-ranked, shade-tolerant St. Augustine grasses, yet does well in full sun. Seville has excellent cold tolerance with good color retention and spring green-up under moderate fertilization.
Sapphire (St. Augustine)
Sapphire St. Augustine is an attractive turfgrass with a fast horizontal growth habit, purple stolon color and long leaf blade that is highly infolded in mature turf, giving the grass a fine-leaf appearance. Sapphire has a pleasing deep blue-green color and has good color retention, even under low fertility conditions. Sapphire tolerates salt, shade, and drought. Sapphire is an excellent choice for a homeowner’s grass, due to improved wear recovery and reduced weed problems.
Tifway 419 (Bermuda)
Tifway 419 is an improved hybrid Bermuda grass. Tifway 419 forms a fine textured, dense hybrid Bermuda turf that excels in high traffic areas or under golf/athletic field conditions. Tifway 419 performs at its best in full sun with mowing heights normally associated with fairways, roughs, sports fields and lawns. When fully established, it has excellent drought and heat tolerance and will recover quickly from abuse or neglect.
Developed by Rod Riley, the foremost turf grass breeder and green keeper in Australia, Celebration is ideal for central and southern regions of the United States. Celebration requires less mowing than typical Bermuda grass varieties and has tough runners, rhizomes, and deep roots that provide excellent sod strength, wearability, and improved drought tolerance. A striking soft texture, plus shade, cold and drought tolerances, makes this Bermuda variety ideal for sports fields, golf courses, residential and commercial landscapes.
